The Scrubbed Pine Table

I have always loved the image of the British country kitchen with a big scrubbed pine table plonked smack dab in the middle.  At this table one would mix, knead and roll out dough, cut out cookies, fold laundry, arrange flowers or even take a meal.  Visit me here to find the latest recipe that I've prepared for you on my scrubbed pine table.

Soyaki-Glazed Edamame
with Toasted Sesame Seeds

About as easy as it gets!

1 bag frozen edamame, shells on
Trader Joe's Soyaki Sauce
1Tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Prepare edamame according
to package.  I usually microwave
mine as it takes just 3-4 minutes.

Drain any water.

Add 2-3 TBSP Soyaki sauce
and toss well.

Put on a pretty platter and
sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Kathleen's Green Beans

A family favorite, from a friend
who feels like family.

1.5 pounds fresh green beans,
ends trimmed
1/4 cup {1/2 stick butter}
1 clove garlic, minced
1/3 cups sliced almonds
2 TBSP fresh lemon juice
salt

Heat 3 quarts water to boil in a
large sauce pan.  Add beans; cook,
uncovered until crisp-tender, 6-8 mins.
Drain; rinse under cold water to stop cooking.*

Melt butter in a large saute pan over medium
heat.  Add garlic.  Cook, stirring until soft,
about 2 minutes.  Stir in almonds and cook
until they are light brown, about 2 minutes.
Stir in the green beans, lemon juice and
salt to taste.  Cook, stirring often, until
just hot.

*I do this part ahead and then add
the beans in when required.
