On impulse I purchased
a Meditation-a-Day calendar
in January from the clearance
table at Barnes & Noble.
Those of you who have been
reading along with me for a
while know that I love quotes.
Often, when I read one that
really resonates with my spirit,
I massage the words over and
over in my mind....
And often, that leads to some
deeper thoughts ~
And often, I like to share
those thoughts
with
you.
Because I know, if we were
talking over steaming cups of
tea or coffee, frosty glasses of
iced tea or wine, we would have
a wonderful conversation sparked
by an idea that was born from
one of these quotes.
Here is one that
particularly
stayed with me:
Put your heart, mind, intellect,
and soul even to your smallest
acts. This is the secret of
success.
~ Swami Sivananda
Do you live with this kind
of passion, where each day
you greet every task with your
whole heart?
I try to.
Try.
Some days are more
challenging in this regard
than others.
But still, I try.
One of my all-time favorite
quotes, from Mother Teresa,
is very similar to the Swami's:
Not all of us can do great things.
But we can do small things with
great love.
Yes, we can fold the warm
laundry with great love ~
for the most basic of blessings
such as life, family and freedom....
Yes, we can put our hearts into
weeding the garden, thankful for
the feeling of sunshine on our
backs, fresh air in our lungs and
the joy of birdsong....
Yes, we can put our mind into
creating nourishing meals that
fuel these bodies that allow us
to do so many things, every day....
Yes, we can put our intellect
into loading the dishwasher, walking
the dog or writing a birthday card,
honoring the brain that takes care
of blinking and breathing and putting
one foot in front of the other, freeing
our minds to dream as well
as to take care of business.....
And yes, we can put our souls
into how we meet the world each
day, via the smile to the cashier,
the wave to the neighbor, the hug
we give a friend.....
It's all a matter of passion and
gratitude and how we frame
our life's work, whether that
is done behind a desk, behind
a wheel, behind a rake or
broom, camera or piano ~
or behind little ones, gently
guiding them forward.
I'll leave you with another quote
from an extraordinary woman,
Helen Keller. It has been at the
top of my blog page since I began
this adventure in 2010.
I long to accomplish a great and
noble task, but it is my chief duty
to accomplish small tasks as if
the were great and noble.
Love her.
Love you all.
Thanks for inspiring my
passion, not only for writing,
but for sharing the
beauty that is this life.
xo

Suzanne- What inspiring words here tonight. I think that you inspire many of us with your writings and your photos.
I try to be my best everyday and not let any negative thoughts creep into my mind, soul, and/or life. Some days are easier than others- xo Diana
You touched my heart.
Love,
Sharon
Dear Suzanne,
it has been a while (too much time) since my last visit.
I've thought of you yesterday and here I am.
How are you?
This post is simply perfect, it is exactly what I am trying to do all the time. We can find so much joy in our little does...everyday.
Fra
Thank you for your words..and your sharing of thoughs..you always inspire me and make me feel good - love your blog and also the photos!Best whishes from Else Britt.:)
That is the quote that tops the cake. When you see and hear what she had to face blind and hearing impaired, what we have to face with full capacity is doable. I will try to march in today, TRYING.
THANK YOU MY DEAR! Anita
Suzanne, LOVELY post. It immediately brought to mind two very motivating pieces of Scripture ... “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’" (LUKE) It so ties in with your first quote...I believe if I am loving God FIRST, then those small acts are just naturally going to be the byproduct from the source of love that comes in and through me back out to loving others!! rah!:-).The other is, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." (COLOSSIANS) Even the smallest deed when done with God's glory in mind, an UN-self-serving action...will become a GREAT deed, as seen from Heaven...Thanks so much for inspiring and motivating again....as ALWAYS. You are such a wonderful blog-writer to come and sit and visit with...Big {{hugs}} to you, have a beautiful weekend!! xoxoxo
beautiful words. i too love great quotes. such inspiration.
A wonderful reminder to each of us Suzanne to put our whole hearts into everything we do! I love the quotes and your song choice is perfect!
Kat
you're such a deep thinker. i love that about you. wish we could sip tea and dream a bit together. on my SWING;)
Wonderful quotes Suzanne, and I agree. We need to slow down and just think .. find goodness in others, as well as in each day. Laundry, gardening, cooking, are everyday activities that many WISH they could do. Challenging as life can be at times, finding goodness in each day should be a priority.
Enjoy your weekend.

Nice thoughts for meditation. Beautiful post. You pick me up. xo Jenny
I try to do everything with purpose and gratitude. I learned it a long time ago when I read Simple Abundance and realized that when I woke in the morning I would go to brush my teeth and catch my unmade bed in the corner of my eye and go to make it with the toothbrush still held in my mouth. I decided to take her advice and concentrate on one task at a time and be happy in it and make it a gift. There is a reverence when we learn to make our daily tasks a joyful act. But then I know you already know this Suzanne. Thank you for such a beautiful post today!
hugs from here...
All of these quotes are quite wonderful and really do make us think about bringing our best to everything. I can tell that you do! I try, too!
Thank you for your inspiring and encouraging post.I needed the reminders.
I read about a fourteenth century Monk named Brother Lawrence whose writings survive so we know of his spiritual life. He lived this way and was a precursor to the humble Mother Teresa. I think I am attracted to these spiritual ones because they had a rich spiritual life paired with a life of service to others.
Such an inspiring post, Suzanne...I have always felt if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well. The small deeds we do are what make up our lives...thank you for the lovely reminder, my friend XO
You need to write a book. You move people and make me look at the dullest of the things and see them in a whole new light! Inspiring!
I think this is the way to a happy life, it reduces a whirring mind. Concentrating on the simply tasks makes each day one of importance, as it should be. We let time run through our fingers, and yet it is one of the most precious things we have. Honestly - can I do it, not yet but it is a work in progress.
Beautifully said, Suzanne. I am a quote collector too…I have books and books filled with them since I was a girl….still collecting…and I love the ones you chose today. My days are filled with small acts and it's so easy to get caught up in the drudgery of it all - but the truth of the matter is that all these small acts add up to a home, a life and a family that is well loved. Thank you for once again writing words that resonate in my heart. You touch my soul time and again with the perspective you share here and I couldn't adore you or admire your gift with words any more!
A wonderful post, as always. It is always a delight to visit. I will be thinking of you and your words all day. A great way to start the day (and a cup of coffee, of course)
Happy Summer!
Kelley
I do try...to live intentionally. Have you read "The Practice of the Presence of God" by Brother Lawrence? That tiny book opened my eyes & soul! And your blog is balm to it as well. Blessings!
Dear, beautiful Suzanne...I feel as if I have just been enveloped in a warm embrace of wisdom and love.
You are a wonderful writer.... inspirational, spiritual, and deep.
I have notebooks filled with beautiful quotes, and the ones you mention here are some favorites. I love this process of actually trying to "live" the meaning of that wisdom.
Just beautiful. Thank you...
Big hugs, enjoy the lovely and warm week, my friend..
xoxo,
- Irina
Everything here once again speaks to my heart and touches my soul. I try, I try, I try consciously to find peace and joy in every task I do ... some days are more successful than others as you said. And I couldn't do it without the wisdom of the brilliant minds. I post written quotes on the mirror in the washroom and I frequently change them ( weird, I know). What my family and guests read right now is an amazing quote by Abraham J. Heschel “Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement…get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually. To be spiritual is to be amazed.”
Thank you, Suzzane!
Oh the little things... They're not little when how we do them shows our attitude in how we do the big things. Thanks for the thoughtful and profound encouragement!
Well said Suzanne and as I get older I find myself enjoying those little things more and more.
xo Cathy
Wonderful and Inspiring quotes!
I too, am a "Quote Collector" ~ fortunately they don't take up as much room as my other collections : )
After moving out of our home this past weekend, and all the work involved in packing, cleaning, and unpacking, it has been a joy to come visit you this morning and enjoy the peacefulness of your blog Suzanne. We are renting a house for the summer as we build again. Being in a temporary dwelling is not easy for me, much of our belongings in storage, but I am trying to do as you suggest, and to be thankful, and how it changes ones attitude! We could have ended up in an apartment but have been blessed with renting a house, with a large fenced-in back yard for the dogs... so I can live with these mauve colored walls for a while! And my art and craft supplies in bins lining the dining room walls....
Thank you for the lovely inspiration this morning!

Suzanne,
Before I even click the keys that will lead me to you, I positively know that I am going to learn something, feel something and discover something. I, too, love quotes and look for inspiration all around me.
My sweet mother, who with her graduated degree, focused on raising her children, reminds me that in walking the dog or folding the laundry, it gives the mind an opportunity to wander into deeper thoughts....and process. Love that. Love her. Love you!
xoxo Elizabeth
*Loved* this, Suzanne....and love quotes as well.....little sound-bites our souls can nibble on....I'm with you on this....

Oh dear heart,
It is so nice of you to come by because I know you are so busy with the last days of school and all! YES! TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY is the last day of school for the kids and Thursday is a clerical day for us and Friday is the last day of classroom clean up. I AM SO EXCITED and I have been soaking up the beauty of our area every weekend. I love Minnesota.
Dearest, your kids have got to be ready for summer as well!! AND YOU TOO! I just KNOW you have beautiful plans to spend time with family and friends. I am looking forward to some great posts from you as you beautifully reflect and write about your musings. Thank you again for visiting and HAVE A GREAT WEEK of the last days of school! Anita
Another beautiful post!! I love quotes, I have them all over my house, car and office! My favorite one is Mother Theresa's too! So simple and true!
I hope YOU have a lovely day!

Ha, I was thinking of the Mother Theresa quote myself and was going to leave it in the comments ... alas, you already had it.
A gorgeous post from a truly special person. I adored every word, Gorgeous - thankyou! J x
Today was just the day to come to your blog. A friend of Rick's son Greg took his life and the funeral is this morning. I didn't know him -- we'd met once -- but I couldn't help thinking, as one does when this happens, what could anyone have done to ease whatever his emotional pain and prevent this. Maybe nothing. But I'd like to think that if we lived by your "small acts" philosophy -- one I try to do -- that perhaps someone, somewhere in his circle, may have said or done something even inadvertently that gave him hope. This is a fine reminder for us all.
Just so you know.....you are a special soul....who has definitely been in this world before......not everybody gets it like you do.
Beautiful quotes and an important reminder for us that we each have the chance to choose to live a passionate life, no matter what. xo ~Lili
