The Pause Button

If you could touch
the pause button
on your life ~
freeze frame ~
and document
some of the small
things from a certain
date, wouldn't it be
fun to look back on
them in the future?

Many people do
this with a daily
diary or journal,
but I'm bad at
sticking with things
like that....

Instead, I thought
it would be cool to
choose one day
each month and answer
a series of questions
called Right Now,
that I've read on
other blogs.

Just to reminisce.

To smile and nod and
be transported back
to then
{which is actually

I'm going to jot each
month's entry in this
little book.

Since today is Thursday
and it's the 12th of January,
the 12th of each month
will be my Right Now day.

Here it goes.

watching:  Nothing.  I'm
listening to Smooth Radio
London on my internet radio.
It's such a treat to tune
 into stations around the
world.  The British accents
are making me smile.

eating:  I've been enjoying at
least one orange a day since
Christmas ~ crave them.

drinking:  My favorite tea,
Harney & Son's Paris.  I've
steeped it in a pretty pot given
to me by a close friend. In my own
small way, I'm celebrating
Fiona, as today just happens
to be her birthday!

wearing:  A yoga outfit.  It's as
comfortable as pajamas, only no
one gives you an odd look when
you leave the house in it.

avoiding:  Entering receipts into
our financial program, Quicken.
I've let them pile up too long.....

feeling:  Cozy.  There are teeny,
tiny snowflakes floating down
outside and my home is snug and
warm.  Doesn't get much better.

missing:  My GiGi's phone calls.
We shared some wonderful laughs
over the years before dementia
stole her memory of me ~
and our relationship ~ away.

thankful:  For the extra-mild
winter we've had, so far.  It was
53 and sunny on Tuesday with
no snow on the ground.  Felt like
spring!  Last year we had snow
from November 13th until late
March.  Makes for a
weather:  11 degrees F, cloudy,
dancing snowflakes.

praying:  For my mom and dad
as they prepare to travel.  Always
worry a bit when they are away
from home.

needing:  To finish my book for
Book Club, next week.  I'm reading
The Tiger's Wife, by Tea Obreht.

thinking:  About spending the day
on Saturday with my high school
friend, who is coming to visit, and
our daughters.  Vintage shops and
tea and Lion King, oh my......!

loving:  All the kind, kind, kind
comments and e-mails I received
about my last post, Because I Can.
Many brought tears.

That's my first
Right Now.

A little slice of life
to press between the pages,
once a month.

What are you writing in
the pages of your own life,
right now?

There's something happening
every day, but I'm too tired and
too lazy to write it all down.

What a nice idea. That would be a fun blog post once a month too. That's the kind of book I need. My mom is always after me to document every moment of my children's lives so I bought the book called One Line a Day, figuring that that seemed easy enough...apparently not so, since I can't even manage to do that.

This is such a beautiful idea, dear Suzanne! You are an inspiration...

What a fantastic idea!!! I love it that you will have it online (if you are going to post this right now on line) as something to always come back to and reflect on. I so often would love to push a pause button on life, especially when my kids were younger, I would never want to press start again:) Such a precious time...... Love the idea!! I always enjoy coming always make me think about something that matters.

Always good intentions but I just never kept records/journals as well as I would have liked. I always wish I had taken more photos too...........I always say you can't take too many photos but you can take not enough. The same applies to journals..........I will try after reading your most inspiring post. Beautiful as always! XO

This is SUCH a good idea!
I spend so much time living in and worrying about the future...I sure do need something like this to help me stop and reflect and appreciate the blessings of each day.

Miss you, my friend!

What a lovely idea Suzanne! It will be fun to look back on this when you are GiGi's age (and for your kids to read someday!) I spent yesterday sorting through my mom's basement in preparation for her to move this spring, and oh, it was so precious to me to look back at snippets of her life. Your kids will treasure this and in the meantime it's a wonderful way to capture those moments and feel grateful for them, right?
Love the Anne Frank quote at the end of this post - I never read that one before!
Happy weekend beautiful friend!

What a wonderful idea, I think that I may have to take this up myself. So many things to think about and so many memories.

I do so love visiting here, as Tina said, you always give us something to think about.

We have had fabulous weather all week her in Milwaukee, and then yesterday it snowed 4 or 5 inches. It is so beautiful and I love to see it coming down.

Take care and have a lovely weekend, Elizabeth

I keep journals...have since H.S But since I began blogging I have neglected my journals. Part of my January retreat into reflection has been a return to journaling. Oh how I have missed it.

So are you loving Downton Abbey season 2 as much as I am?!!!! We loved season 1 so much that my hubby bought the DVD set. We will be buying this season too. So good.

I think you and I are on the same page with steeping tea, a yoga outfit, avoiding receipts, mild winter, and needing to finish a book for a review!
Saturday sounds like it's going to be a day FULL of blessings and I just pray that you savor each and every moment!

Love & Hugs!

right now IS important.

i'm physically tired from a cardio workout and then housework, and it's the sweetest fatigue cuz it's not an in my head exhaustion from wrestling with the meaning of life or writing the next great parenting article or getting pissed off by a friend. snowflakes are dancing outside and the roads are bad so i'm trying not to fret about my men driving on them.

right now is GOOD, suzanne. thank you for drawing my attention to this.

There are some days when I'd like to be able to just freeze frame my life - just stop and look at my nearest and dearest and enjoy the place where we are at. Life moves us on so fast and at such a rate it's hard to keep up with the changes sometimes.

I really enjoyed your Right Now post. I hope you'll be able to stick with this idea, it'll be interesting for you to look back in the years to come, and enjoy once more the place where you were at.

Wishing you a lovely weekend,

Another wonderful idea! I think I will follow your lead, in the moment we all think that we will remember what is going on, unfortunately not true. So little snippets of now that become then. Thanks for the kind welcome back!

Great idea, Suzanne. I wish I had done this journaling much earlier in my life so I could remember now who I was and what my family was doing. It is all a blur. But, I may not have had the time. Good luck with your new goals. xo Jenny

I was reading some of my journal pages from when my kids were young. It brought it all back.... my journaling has always been so random, I have several journals with just the first few pages written in... I always thought if I bouight a new one.....

While going through a closet yesterday I came upon a large framed photo of me with my 2 young children, smiling into the camera.

I stared into my own eyes and thought, "What lies ahead, you have no idea... so much has happened since this photo was taken" ... and now our own daughter is the woman in the picture with the little children.

Time. How it goes on....

Good to capture the moments in words and in photos.

Lovely thoughts Suzanne,
~ Violet

I can never keep up with a journal either. Loved your previous post. Putting the shoe photos throughout was brilliant. Every day I think about the fact that life can change in an instant. Life itself to me at times seems so surreal. Sending hugs and blessings your way, Tammy
