Words seem to be
swirling
through my
mind lately like
the
leaves dancing to the
ground
around me.
Last month those
words were
courage and clarity.
As we float like drifting
leaves
into October, this new word
keeps bobbing and weaving
it's way into my consciousness.
Wonder.
![]() |
I know it's a word usually
reserved for Christmas,
with it's
sparkly lights, special songs
and the story of a miracle at
the heart of it all.
But every day in October, I
wake to the marvel of
nature,
playing out before
my eyes. The smell
of the autumn air, the dazzling colors,
geese forming V's
and heading south,
crisp mornings and evenings,
all evoke a sense of awe, though
I've seen this show for over
four decades.
Wonder.

When we take our dog out
at
night and
hear the rustle of leaves
in
the trees, I think back to my
Halloween days as a child, when I
believed strange and
marvelous
spirits were out and about
on that
special night.
Wonder.
![]() |
I have teens in the house,
now,
but I remember when
my son was
little and would
start plotting
his Halloween costume in August.
His
birthday is the day before
Halloween, so
those were truly
magical days
for him. Last year,
as a tall
for his age 12 year-old,
he was
a bit shy about going trick
or treating. At the last minute a
friend called and with minimal
convincing he was in the previous
year's costume and out the door.
Wonder.

We all crave it, don't we?
I've known a few people
who are jaded, cynical and
acerbic, who would scoff at
the notion of any wonder
left
in the world. Life disappointed
them somewhere along the way
and they use their sarcastic
outlook as a shield.
![]() |
I've also known people who
were
dealt a difficult hand in life,
but seem to have even more
wonder than the rest of us.
These folks take nothing for
granted; for them everything
is
full of wonder, from sunsets
to
flowers, from the aroma of
baking to the sight of a
child sleeping.
Wonder.
![]() |
When we choose to feel wonder,
despite a bad day--
despite not feeling well--
despite hard things we
might be
grappling with,
our perspective shifts
to
gratitude.
![]() |
When we choose to feel wonder
on a really good day--
when we feel great--
when everything seems
to be going
just right,
then wonder takes flight
and becomes
joy.
But that's a word for another month.

Right now, I'm going to go
to the
mailbox with my dog.
We are going
to kick some leaves
on the way....
and feel the autumn breeze....
and embrace the sheer wonder
of
being
alive.
May you find many
wonder-full moments
to celebrate this week!
xx

Beautiful, beautiful word.
Fondly,

Oh, my....there truly IS wonder everywhere we turn, dear Suzanne...thank-you for feeling it as I do. Fall is absolutely my favorite time of the year...I feel so alive with the crispness of the air, the chill in the morning...all so wonderful.
And the wonder of Pinterest...I fear I am absolutely under it's spell! I need to find you there...wishing you a lovely night, dear friend...

You put the leaves in for me, I know. How wonder full is that? xo Jenny
To be able to hold a sense of wonder through our entire lives is a true gift indeed.
To be wonderfilled is priceless.
To be wonderous shows readiness for growth.
To be wonderful and share it is joyous.
Thank you for sharing your joy with us Suzanne - you are a treasure.
I'm off to revel in the spring sunshine and look with wonder at the glorious blooms bursting around me.
There is so much of wonder, isn't there? Suzanne, I love it when you stop the world, just for a moment, and take notice of the important things in life.
Lovely lovely pictures from Pinterest.

Autumn is my favourite season of the year. I love the colours, smells, textures, sounds . . . It's all very beautiful and very wonderful to me! xxoo
Just what I needed this morning. Yesterday I had a lunch date with two friends who could do with a little more wonder in their lives, I left the lunch feeling oddly deflated, and with resolve in my heart to seek out those friends whose wonder and joy capacity is well honed.
I love this post! And I'm walking to your mailbox right along with you. Crunching leaves in the fall is one of my favourite things that I'm really missing this year.
But I'm full of wonder that here we are in Dubai, across the world, amongst different cultures, worlds away from the familiar. A once in a lifetime opportunity. And I'm truly grateful.
have a wonderful week! xo
Wow Suzanne, you have such a way with words. And you truly have me pausing to think and really take in everything that you are saying. And now, I'm going back to read this wonder-full post again. Thanks! xx
Good morning you WONDERful friend!
Something is definitely up with our computers, Blogger and even emails! And I have a NEW computer! Thank you for having the COURAGE and the CLARITY to WRITE your observations of the WONDERS of life. So many talented people have yet to trust their abilities to just write what they feel, see, hear, smell and taste out of life. Bless you dear Suzanne! Anita
everywhere i go i am looking around and all the autumn beauty. it is everywhere right now.
I wonder at how you can so beautifully piece together words that stir up thoughts and memories and emotions. What a beautiful song on your playlist right now ("Ordinary Miracle")....I am off to iTunes to find it! Have a WONDERful day my lovely friend :) :)
gotta love a little wonder. what would the world be without it?? hoping you get your techy stuff fixed. that's so frustrating. miss you friend. got my skype acct. now i need to actually try using it;) need that virtual coffee!
Love this uplifting post. It was a grand way to begin today. Thanks bunches lovey. ♥T
Thank you for a WONDERFUL post. I especially loved the picture of the little girl in the leaves. You writing just harvested memories of times past of this beautiful season. The making of leaf piles, pumpkin hunts, our cider and apple donut trips at a farm we always visited, sewing costumes for my children, a special halloween party even my mother let me host years, years ago. So nice that you mentioned the geese. I was just planting mums yesterday and saw a V. We all must take in the Wonder. So much natural beauty to the season can bring you such calm and contentment. Thanks Suzanne.
Wonder...yes and that very important and magical word...choice. We choose to either marvel in the beautiful wonder around us or not. Thanks for your inspiration. I'm going to choose "wonder" today. Have a great day. Mona
may we never lose this sense! it keeps us childlike and open to see God.
what a beautiful reminder, suzanne.

Suzanne,
Beautiful post. Well written. I too love October so much! I am going to go camping in Kentucky on Sunday for a couple of nights. I'll experience a lot of WONDER, there!

Hi Suzanne! It has been weeks since I have been in blogland and I have missed it! (So sorry about your camera and computer being at odds - I hate when that happens!) I sat back and thoroughly enjoyed this post. You never cease to amaze with with your beautiful thoughts. Loved all of these images too!
I never know where you'll lead us with your blog titles - but always worth a follow around the blind bend :) Will I see you at Sarah's autumn party tomorrow? XOL
What a wonderful post! I love this time of year and your words describe the season perfectly. We are still a bit warm here in Texas, but can feel a cool breeze every once in a while! (I love your playlist!)
Wonder..what a beautiful word and yes its "wonder-ful" to experience all that God gives us in this life.
If we just be still..and listen and look...we'll know that He is God, and gives us so much to enjoy.
Its the simple things.....that bring so much wonder and joy.
Beautiful post my sweet friend xo

Wonderful!
Your posts are amazing...love to visit you!
I am always excited to see a new post from you. Your writing is so special and evokes wonderful feelings and thoughts to ponder.
I hope I never become so jaded that I can't find wonder in every single day, no matter how ordinary the day may seem!
Kat :)
Each day is a gift. I'm so thankful I'm able to know that and appreciate it. Life isn't perfect, but it can be very, very good!
Have a WONDERful day!
Best,
Susan
I can always come here and know that I will be blessed for doing so Suzanne. You have such a beautiful look on life. And the way you weave words together is magic!
sending hugs...
First of all: I LOVE that rainbow leaf picture. They must have searched for na age to find all the leaves in those colours!!
And second, I completely agree with your words. I try and remember to find wonder at every turn. Some days I get it...and feel so happy and alive!
Thank you so much for linking to Modern Country Style's Fall In Love party.

Wonderful Suzanne! Thank you for blessing us with your beautiful words and observations! I hope your camera and computer start speaking to each other soon:)
Oh what a great gift it is to know wonder throughout your life. I see it in the butterflies, the opening of flowers and the smell of the rain washing the world.
I find spending time with small children nourishes that sense of wonder.
Fabulous observations.
The temps have finally dropped here and the sun has popped in and out of rain showers for two days. I'm loving this autumn shower and can't help but wonder what changes will come with the new season. I am eternally hopeful and full of wonder. Thank you for this beautiful post.
You always inspire me Suzanne!!
I hope you will come visit & tell me what you think of my fall decor.....so far! Oh and I have a new giveaway!

I love wonder. It's one of my favorite things. Tonight I had the ultimate wonder experience -- no photo for it, but hopefully soon I'll write about it because it was too precious not to share! I love all your wonders!
