Making Tracks: A Virtual Tea

Hello, sweet friends.

If you were really here
right now, in person,
you'd be sitting across
from me in an Amtrak
train dining car, heading
up towards Seattle.

clickety-clak,
clickety-clak

Dappled forests,

snow-capped mountains,

Queen Anne's Lace

and lovely old barns

whizzing by in a flash.....

as we lean across
the little table to talk
softly, steaming cups
of Darjeeling with milk
sitting between us.

If you were really here,
I'd tell you that while
my visit out West was
filled to the brim with
big events, like a family
reunion, a wedding,
college visits and a
trip to the sea, it was the
 little moments that
I will carry with me,
always....

If you were really here,
I know you'd nod and
laugh, smile and listen
intently ~ because you're
you and that's what
you do : )

I'd ask you to tell me
about your special summer
memories and while you
happily elaborated, I'd
pile our plates with
 yummy tea goodies.

Then I'd regale you
 with tales of antiquing and
junking and reveal that
I've decided on Lavinia Rose
for my best thrift find of
the trip, a gorgeous silver
over copper tray already
winging her way back to
Minnesota via U.S. Mail.

You'd ask after my parents
and their loveable pooch
and I'd sing their praises
for putting up with me and
my kids for nearly a month
{and my hubby for ten days},
spoiling us with great food,
great talks outside on the gliders
and great times simply
 being
together.

You're blessed, you'd agree,
and for a few seconds we'd be
 silent, digesting your words
along with our scones.

And if you were really here,
I'd get even more serious
~ just for a moment ~
and grab your hand and
thank you for taking this
ride with me, because
I love you
and you're the best.

And since you
are you,
you'd know that I
wasn't just talking
about the train.

More tea?

xx
Suzanne

Yes please!

I'm actually sitting in my little Eames replica rocker writing this to you, so am I rocking and rolling just don't have a cup of tea in front of me.

This is a glorious recap of the beautiful moments, large and small of your wonderful summer break.

Hoping that you have been able to have a proper sleep in a real bed and you're not replicating the pampaered pooch reclining on the lounge!

Happiest of happy days Lovely!

xx Felicity

Oh Dear Suzanne,

If I were with you I'd be in heaven!
A train ride with scenery sounds wonderful right now.
It sounds calming and relaxing.

If I were there with you I'd tell you about the excitement I've been feeling knowing that the day I'll meet my baby girl is growing closer.
I'd tell you I'm nervous too!
I'd confide in you that I hadn't really thought about the pain associated with the big day until recently and prayers for peace would be greatly appreciated.

If I were there with you I'd fill you in on all the antics of my two pups.
I'd listen to the tales or all the tails you encountered this summer.
I'd ask about your daughter and the more you'd tell me about her the more my heart would swell with excitement for the life that she is living!

I'd never want the train ride to end, but I would know that I have to get home eventually to prepare for my own daughter!
I hope she's as amazing as yours ;)

Have a Blessed Friday!
Biz

Put a cute animal picture in a post and I'm all yours:). I have not been on a train in AGES........sounds fun and adventurous to me. A month with family sounds even better to me. But sometimes going home is just right.

Morning Suzanne~
I especially love the photo of a younger hand holding an older hand. Wrinkled hands, like beautifully wrinkled faces, say so much about Life. What a fabulous journey you took this summer. The photos say it all. Our Earth certainly is exquisite. xoxo Amy

gorgeous images and thoughts today, lovely girl.

i'm pretty sure we wouldn't be bored on that train one minute even though i'd probably pass on the tea and scones, favoring an icy diet coke and something decadently chocolate and i bet there would be deep discussions about family and midlife and existential angst and also a lot of laughing and random far-out weirdness that can only happen when hearts are open and listening and we love as if we can't be hurt.

love.

I am late, but I did not miss this train....no.

Thank you for coming by on your way out west, where I KNOW you will scoop up the memories and bring them to us so we can also savor them.

Suzanne, how I wish I could do a YOUTUBE of the harp, but I am so unsaavy in those areas!!!! I am lucky that I have a camera on my computer so I can SKYPE great blogging pals around the world, but to video myself playing harp...I need to figure that out!

BLESSINGS OF SUMMER BLISS to you out west and thank you for stopping at the train depot to come to visit with those of us who love you back.
