Do As I Say....

{Not as I do!}

10 Things Not to Do
When you have Laryngitis

1.  Do not drive with another
talkative friend who you
haven't seen in a month
to a cooking class, chatting
animatedly the whole way.

2.  Do not attend a going-away
dinner the same night for a
dear friend in a very loud
restaurant with ten girlfriends
which is sure to include a
lot of laughter.

3.  Do not spend the next afternoon
walking with a buddy on the
local trail as cottonwood drifts
in puffs all around you.....and
then meet all of your kids at
the club pool and try to squeak
out words over the din of shrieking
children, life guards and splashing water.

4.  Do not go out that night with
your hubby to meet another couple for
dinner al fresco, where more laughter
ensues and too much wine is consumed.

The drive Up North

5. Do not drive two hours north of
home the next day to indulge your
daughter's love of the rock group
the Goo Goo Dolls at a concert held in
the event center of an American Indian
casino.  Can you say smoky?
Loud?

6.  Do not take a sunset cruise the following
night to celebrate your son's best friend
who is moving.....and try and croak out
words above the roar of the boat's motor.
{I actually took my own advice, here,
and sent the rest of the family without me.}

7.  Do not cheer on your son's baseball
team the subsequent afternoon, even
though the game is a nail biter that
they lose, 12-11. No, no; ball field dust
and fresh-mown grass are not good
conditions for laryngitis.

8.  Do not try and talk with your sweet
mama on the telephone, even though
you have a lot of plans to make and always
enjoy catching up this way.  Do.not.do.it.

9.  Do not forget to smile, nod, shrug
and generally polish up your non-verbal
communication.....and your sense of humor.

10.  Do not, whatever you do, whine to
your blogging pals to please, please
share their remedies for getting a
voice back after a week of a laryngitis.

oops

Thanks for listening : )
I'll let you do the talking, now.....

xx

Oh your momma is so gorgeous...no wonder you are so beautiful!

HAPPY SILENCE! Anita

HA!

humor is all about contrasts and i'm loving the contrast and irony of an inability to express yourself in such senses-excessively-filled-up moments!

you expressed it all beautifully, and i must say i think more people could be deepened by the occasional laryngitis episode. listening is LIKE TOTALLY IMPORTANT. someone wise said 'being listened to feels so much like love, most people don't know the difference.'

warm hug and sending my healing powers!

The weekend is upon you, take it easy and drink lots of tea and honey. Best wishes, Tammy

Bless your heart!!! I guess the upside to all that is that blogging doesn't require your speaking voice - just the voice in your heart! :)

Sending you healing thoughts!!!

Good morning dearest...have enough rain, do you? YIKES! But it is ever so lush and that makes me happy. THANK YOU for coming to visit. I so admire you and for you to come to leave a comment makes me so happy! I hope your voice is healing. That smile of yours will say it all, and yes, ONE perfect word or gesture CAN CHANGE our world, can't it?

Be well dear friend, Anita

Oh my dear - so sorry to hear of your condition! And with so many fun things to partake in! I don't know if there is any evidence to back this up, but I had off-and-on laryngitis in the winter and my mother picked up Manuka honey for me at Whole Foods, to take by the teaspoonful once or twice a day, and miraculously I improved. (Proving once again that my mama is ALWAYS right!!!) I did learn that putting honey into a hot beverage like tea reduces the honey's therapeutic qualities, so now I just take it cold out of the fridge (it takes getting used to!) Hope this helps in some way and that you have a great weekend my lovely friend!
PS my boys are playing summer ball too :)

Oh I'm so sorry!! And sounds like an unfortunate time for you to have lost your voice!! I used to get laryngitis twice a year until I realized it was allergy related. As soon as I feel that drip in the back of my throat, even if subtle, I use a steroid nasal spray like Flonase. I haven't had laryngitis for years now and I don't miss it a bit!! Hoping you feel better soon!!

I hope you get your voice back soon! What a social life you have! You've have to brush up on sign language :)

I am laughing now because I always do the don'ts whenever I lose my voice. Especially the one about going somewhere with my chatty friends.
Suzanne I love your 'behind the scenes' post. It showed me who you are and I love what I see. Giving everyone we come in contact with the respect and recognition they deserve is huge to me. I wish we could live in a world where everyone feels important. That would be my idea of perfect.
sending hugs...

Oh dear, everything you did seemed to be the exact opposite of what you knew you shouldn't be doing...but...what fun you sound to have had. Life is for living, laryngitis and all!

I hope you're all better now, it sounds like it didn't slow you down one bit!

I hope you are feeling better and have gotten back your voice. DO curl up with a good book and a yummy drink, or settle into a nice bubble bath with a favorite magazine.

That's the most fun I've ever heard anyone having with laryngitis Suzanne! Still, I don't know what it is about someone with laryngitis that is so dang funny, unless they're truly in pain of course. Hope you're over it by now, but if not you could always entertain us with an audio clip! xoxo ~Lili

I am catching up and I hope you are feeling better by now. As you know I've worked with lots of performers and what they do before going in front of cameras or on stage is to drink hot water or tea with honey...NO lemons. Lemons restrict the vocal cords so only hot water or tea with lots of honey. I hope you are catching up on some rest and feeling better. XO
