A potpourri

My little niece turned three yesterday!
Here she is in her new tutu, lost
in her own potpourri of thoughts!

Potpourri:
  1. (n.) A jar or packet of flower leaves, perfumes, and spices, used to scent a room.
  2. (n.) A piece of music made up of different airs strung together; a medley.
  3. (n.) A medley or mixture.
  4. (n.) A ragout composed of different sorts of meats, vegetables, etc., cooked together.
  5. (n.) A literary production composed of parts brought together without order or bond of connection.

Hello!
I had planned to
share a couple
of projects that
I've been working
on....Projects
inspired by YOU...
But the biggest
one won't be
ready for a few
days.

I harvested the
rest of my herbs
yesterday and strung
them to dry, which
reminded me of
potpourri.

So
refill your
coffee or tea while I meander
through some
random updates....a
potpourri
of thoughts
from me to you.

1.  6 cups dried petals { such as roses, chamomile,
honeysuckle, violets, lilac, lily of the valley,
carnations, white jasmine and nasturtium}

My dear friend Kathleen
is recuperating from
her third round of chemo,
administered last Thursday.
Three down, three to
go!  Thank you to all
who have written to ask
how she is doing as well
as to those who sent her
sweet gifts via me : ) !!

2.  Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of a
lemon herb, such as lemon geranium
or lemon balm.

I joined Twitter on
Friday.  Facebook is
probably next.  After
seeing The Social Network
last week, I decided it
was time to step into
the 21st Century!

Twitter symbol from The Guardian UK

3.   Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of cinnamon

I have FINALLY narrowed
down my choice of light
fixtures for our powder room.
However, now I'm considering
distressing the walls to look
like this inspiration photo.  And
maybe I'll start hunting flea markets
 for a different mirror.

4.  Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of  rosemary

Muchas gracias to all of you
sweet readers who took the
time to vote for my daughter's
design on Threadless.com!  With
your help, she garnered 625 votes.
  She inquired and was
told it takes one to two MONTHS
to hear whether or not a submitted
design will be offered as a tee shirt
on their site.  I'll keep you posted!

5.  Add 1/3 cup powdered fixative
such as orrisroot and 3 drops of essential oil
both available at craft and florists shops.
Add some citrus peel too.

We saw the movie Secretariat
this weekend and despite what
some of the critics said, we found
it to be very touching and uplifting.
I love period pieces and true
stories and this one was both.
Magic!

6.  Mix everything together and place
in airtight jars. Let the mixture stand for
4-6 weeks and shake the bottle to mix every week.

We had family photos
taken two weeks ago
by a talented friend  who
is also a photographer by
trade and received our
disk of photos yesterday.
I'm excited to get a jump-
start on our Christmas cards.
Here is a fun one!

7.  Potpourri is beautifully displayed
in glass dishes or small decorative baskets.
Tie 1-2 cups of potpourri into a sachet of tulle
and tie with a cinnamon stick and bow for
a sweet way to freshen up a lingerie drawer.

I realized that my
six month blogiversary
tiptoed by without
me noticing this
month.  It has been
wondrous ride and
I hope you will
continue to journey
through this new
world with me!

There you have it.....my
potpourri of thoughts
as well as a very simple
recipe for a floral potpourri,
all jumbled up!  {The potpourri
recipe was taken from here.}

I'd love to know what
you did this weekend,
so please  add
your reflections
to the potpourri!

xx

Enjoyed your post. Nancy and I went "treasure" hunting in a neighboring town on Friday. My house if filled and I don't need anything major, but did find a couple of little items for decorating. That means "restaging" the WHOLE room to accommodate a couple new, small items. Go figure.

Good Monday Morning, Suzanne!
Oh how I love the little tutu photo. so precious. do we even remember our days of such innocence? They were so carefree that we did not even realize the bliss of being a little girl. We just enjoyed every day as it unfolded, I think. Seeing these pics reminds me of what a wonderful childhood I had since I have no really bad memories or moments...your niece presents that image. Thanks!
You and your daughter look SO much alike. Two peas in a pod. Beautiful... I love my daughter! I should have pics taken of us just to have the treasure...as I know she will not live here one day soon! I am wanting to go see Secretariat, Maybe the next outing Kat and I do will be THAT movie. Looking forward to it already. The potpourri sounds divine!!! Can't wait to see the rest of your busy-ness as of late! Hugs to you. My weekend was filled up with a Marine here, so I cooked a lot. Also was moving a piece of furniture into the entry and took a LARGE picture off the wall to lean against my desk. And what time would the 3 furry amigos get all worked up and run through the LR skidding across the wood floor and slide into it, and knock it over, shattering the glass into a 1000 pieces???? YES...sigh....ummm...the whole house heard me.!!!! all is well that ends well. The furniture is in place and the glass is outside in the garbage bin and the pic is in the walk-in closet...for now.
Hugs to you. yikes. such a long comment!!!!

As always, an upliftng visit at Privet and Holly!!! Our weekend was a jumble of bday parties, dinners with our boys, Wildcate Weekend (school fair), ice skating lessons...a bit of an overload. Nothing like a Monday visit to my favorite blogs to calm the nerves and recharge my batteries.

Happy, happy day....and happy 6 month! Mine came and went as well. Let's celebrate the 1 year mark BIG!!

Lovely post to start my week! Your niece is adorable and what a lovely family pic! I'm so glad to hear Kathleen is hanging in there. Love the wall idea for your powder room. We've been blessed with a couple of gorgeous days which is uplifting in itself - I wake up with a smile just seeing the sun streaming in :)

Sending WONDERFUL thoughts Kathleen's way. I have a close friend that just finished her chemo a few weeks ago after this being her second bout with cancer. First breast, now colon. It's such an unfair disease.

Beautiful post today as always and sending a huge hug your way today!

Your niece is a little darling! Did you get a camera? I think most of the bloggers I know have loved the movie and I think movie critics know nothing of the American Dream anyway. Joe and I had a magical day yesterday just enjoying the day and he helped me arrange flowers for a tablescape. He was so cute as he had no clue what I was doing. Well I barely had a clue as it was my first one! Have an entirely delightful week sweet Suzanne. hugs♥olive

You have inspired me to take a walk outside to gather up ingredients for this wonderful idea for home made potpourri. I had to do a double take with your family picture and then upon closer inspection I finally figured out who was who. I didn't realize how much you and your daughter resemble each other before seeing this one! And I am totally adoring that distressed wall you found for your inspiration. Oh and your niece with the tutu, so precious! Hugs to you Suzanne! ~Lili

Good news about your friend. So glad to hear she's half way through.

I knew you'd love Secretariat.

That pic of you and your beautiful girl was perfect. I want to do a shot like that now!!!

That inspirational shot of the distressed room...I thought it was of your house. Make sure to show your before and afters.

Love that girl and bear print. Went to that etsy site. I adore it. Boy is she talented!

Another wonderful post! I love the carefree picture of your niece. It is a shame that we all lose that wonderful freedom of childhood. The picture of you and your daughter is beautiful and charming. You are so wise to have those pictures taken because you will treasure them always.

Six months!!! Your posts have been a gift to all of us. I thank you so much for your creativity and talent.

Have a wonderful week.

I love posts like this!
It's like being inside your head. :-)

It doesn't seem like six months, it actually seems like much longer, because you have become a friend and a fixture there on my blogroll.

I'm still not tweeting, you may have to pull me into the 21st century by my chin hairs!!! ;-)

XO,
Anne

Happy Monday, Suzanne!

I love your photos, your words.. all of it.

My list of to-do's next year includes growing my own herbs. I cook with fresh herbs all the time... you would think it would be a no-brainer to finally grow my own!;)))

If you can tweet. You can facebook. I can Facebook. But cannot tweet. Let me know how you like it:)

I will keep praying for your sweet friend. May her body and spirit continue to find strength each and every minute of every day.

Love to you.

So far...I have completely resisted Twitter or FB! Most days I feel like I can barely carve out time for blogging. I feel it is less about being connected in the 21st century and more about what will have to give up if I add one more distraction.

Good luck with your potpourri and the photos of 3 beautiful girls made me smile!

Your niece is such a cutie! I want a tutu too!

My weekend was spent snuggled on the sofa with my dog and a blanket, wearing pj's (me, not the dog!) and watching telly all day! Bliss, just what I needed after a stressful week at work!

Happy 6 months!

Good Afternoon Friend,

Well, we saw Secretariat too - and we all loved it! What a wonerful movie.

Spent yesterday in the kitchen with my sweet Abigail making cutout pumpkin sugar cookies and frosting all 4 dozen! Then made a hearty family dinner of meatloaf and mashed potatoes and roasted carrots - I feel winter coming on!

Enjoyed getting my house back in order today and a workout {to work-off said meatloaf and mash potatoes!}.

Hope this finds you well. Looking forward to seeing what projects you have been working on.

This weekend was spent taking a Cinderella clad princess to see Disney Princesses on Ice. It was a wonderful show, but it was better to watch her sweet face!

I love tutu's!!!!
My weekend consisted of,
Friday night:
attending a Bloggers Ball, wearing a gown and feathered hat,

Saturday:
going back to the vintage market of the previous nights Ball

Sunday: church, coffee, then spray painting white 2 tall candle holders and re-painting white (with a brush) a shelf unit found at a flea market...

and then 'building' a bookcase behind my computer with said white candlholders, which now hold up, not candles, but another shelf!

Shelves, bookcases, necessities of life!!!! And lovely in white.

Oh the potpourri!!!!
