Homegrown

What do you get
when you  {deliberately} mix

this
 {Smooth-coated Fox Terrier}

this
 {Miniature Doberman Pinscher}

this
 {Italian Greyhound}

this
{Chihuahua}

and this???
{Manchester Terrier}

You get...

THIS
 Toy Fox Terrier

The Toy Fox Terrier
{also known as the AmerToy}
is one of only 12 true
American breeds.

The others include:

Alaskan Malamute
American Eskimo Dog
American Foxhound
American Staffordshire Terrier
American Water Spaniel
Australian Shepherd
Black and Tan Coonhound
Boston Terrier
Chesapeake Bay Retriever
Cocker Spaniel
Plott {A type of Coonhound}

According to the American Kennel Club,

The Toy Fox Terrier is a big dog
in a small package that possesses intelligence,
courage and a take-charge attitude.
Both a Toy and a Terrier, they are a true working dog,
delighting in hunting tree squirrels and flushing out rodents.
The breed’s colors are white, chocolate and tan;
white and tan; white and black; or tri-color.

 First Christmas  with Gracie ~ 2004

Our six year old TFT,
dubbed Gracie Marie by my
{then}fourth-grader, is on the
 larger size for the breed.

She’s seven pounds…..

of big dog attitude
of terrier scrappiness
of best friend
of love.
 Gracie ~ Queen of the Castle... and our hearts!

Although comical and playful,
Toy Fox Terriers also love
to be held in your arms
or on your lap!

Summer 2006
 Some famous owners
of TFTs include Olympic skater
Kristi Yamaguchi and Twilight
Actress Ashely Greene.

Ashley and TFT Marlow arrive at JFK Airport

When our friends from
New Zealand were in
the States visiting
four years ago, they fell
in love with Gracie and
were determined
to have a TFT of their own!
But back in NZ, they couldn’t
find one.  Eventually they
landed on the Austral-Asian
Toy Fox Terrier Club’s waiting list….
And Miss Abby joined them
a few months later, from
Australia : )
Like Gracie, she likes nothing
better than to play,
cuddle or nap in the
sunshine!

A white and tan ~ also called fawn-colored ~ Toy Fox Terrier

 It’s fun to imagine
this made-in-the-USA breed
tearing it up on the
other side of the globe.
I sooo wish Abby and Gracie
could meet, but due to
quarantine rules, it cannot be.

 So, from this American dog
to that little pup
far far away....

Good night, Abby.

Good night, Gracie!

This looks like a very sweet breed. Our boys always want a dog that they can hold and our Weimaraner just isn't small enough. Mom has Cavaliers so the boys get their small dog "fix" when we visit.

Aww... My mum used to have a Fox terrier... in memory of it she now has a staffordshire figurine of it... I always smile when I see it! Your dog is a cutie... I have a Cocker Spaniel... she's a rescue dog and has her quirks but she's great with the kids, so that's all I could ask for. Dogs make a house a home... I don't think I could ever be without one! Little dogs sometimes are considered nervous and yappy. Gracie is neither of these things. She thinks shes a big dog, and yet she loves to snuggle with you on your lap. I call her my Little Granddog. Wish she were coming with you for Christmas, I need my Gracie Marie fix.

Oh! I do love your Gracie Marie. Lover of all terriers. I so miss my little baby girl Annie Grace. She was a Silkie Terrier. Had to let her go at 13 when her cancer returned. Miss having a small canine around. I know I will have another little one some day. But for now the Three BIG BOY cabelleros are Enough. (shh, don't tell hubby I said that about another small dawg..He may run even farther than Iowa and leave no forwarding address!!!) LOL. After fostering all manner and sizes of dogs for 3 years with rescue, we got a great taste of many types and personalities of canines. It was an experience!!!
Give your little Gracie a hug for me. Enjoyed your post today. Hugs and Smiles!

What a sweetie. We have big dogs, so I don't know what it would be like to cuddle with such a small little guy.

Hope all is going well with you and your family. Did you hear my news. I hope you can come see me at Monticello's sometime when you are in the neighborhood.

Take care,

Kathleen

Growing up I had larger dogs. 5 years ago we rescued out mini dox Rudi from a shelter. He is a delightful mighty might with a heart that is bigger than he is.

Small dogs ROCK!

Oh how we love our pets. My bella bleu is by my side 24/7. She has helped me in this transition of my children leaving the home for school and for love. I think I would have shed alot more tears if it wasn't for bella's company.

Your Gracie is a love, I can see that!

We had an Australian Shepherd *red merle* when our children were babies. He was a magnificant dog!

What a cutie! So here's random - the kazoo is the only musical instrument invented in the US :) So you can add that one to the Made In America list too

We have a toy lap-sitting dog too - aren't they the best?!

This is a very sweet, loving post. I can tell you have great love for your TFT and I'm sure she feels the same about you. Dogs certainly do make a house a home and bring out a very tender spot in all of us.

Gracie, you little doll! I always love to hear about the dogs that make our lives so happy.
Great post and now you have prompted me to research the beginnings of my pups.
Hope all is well, I have missed visiting, as always a delight!

I ask you, is there ANYTHING better than a dog??? Your little Gracie is a charmer, but I must say the picture of the Italian Grayhound stole my heart. What intelligence and elegance! May I please have that dog as Daisy's new BFF???

She looks very sweet.
I don't know much about puppies though. I have a lot of friends that have them, but I have two cats.
p.s. I was absolutely positively delighted that you tried the skillet apple cake and that it was enjoyed. :-D

Gracie Marie you are a sparkler and a treasure.
No doubt you're also very clever as you chose your family very well.

Suzanne - thank you for popping this post into our gallery, I can now visualise who you're talking about when you mention your walks with GM.

Biggest of happy hugs!
