I have a design

I figured YOU

the ones
to
help.

I want to
replace a

in our
powder room
with something
that you'd see
in a beach
house in
Kennebunkport.

{No, we don't live
in Maine, but I
love this area
and style!}

Our house is
a two-story brown
cedar-shingle style
with white trim
on the outside....
And sort of
English country
cottage on the
inside.....

Here are some
inspiration photos
from Kennebunkport:

And here is
the light to be
replaced:

And this is
where it
hangs:

additional
chance to win,
post it
on your blog
and come back
to let me know!

{If you don't keep
a blog, please
leave me your
e-mail address.}

I'll use
random.com
to select a
winner {yay!}.
The contest ends
at midnight PST
on July 15th.

I can't wait
to see what you
think I should choose...
Thanks for shedding
some
{sun}light
on my choice!

Good luck!

Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

Hi Suzanne,
Well, there's a lot to choose from but I say the Kichler Meredith on pg. 9.
I, too, love the homes on the coast in Maine - they have a look and feel all their own. You have a good start with the shingles and your bathroom is beautiful - love the blue and white...very coastal.
Hope we're all of some help to you. :)

I just found your blog and have been looking at several older post. Great Blog! You said coastal theme so I went and looked at CSN and I like the look of Kichler Seaside, brushed nickel or Kenroy Home Harbor brushed steel. They also come in other finishes. Good Luck!

hey honey ... you KNOW how much I love the thrill of the hunt!
Does the light have to be from CSN or could it be something wonderful ... like an old bucket( uh hum like what I just posted about )... hubby can make these and is very good at it!
let me know

I can see something techy or industrial ... what about an old funnel?
I have one with red paint on it

oh btw ...I'd love to win yoyr giveaway, but I'd just as soon rather find the perfect lighting!

Do you know that there are over 11,000 pendant light?!! Wow...how can you make up your mind?! I was looking at the mini pendant lights as I thought you might have one on each side of the mirror and I like the Pacific Coast Lighting pendants in Bamboo, which could give you a bit of a seaside feel! Good luck shopping!

We have very similar taste because my bathroom has white bead board half way up the wall with the exact same blue painted above. I like the Vaxcel Da Vinci Mini Pendant and the Kichler Seaside Indoor 1 Light Incandescent Olde Brick mini pendant.Good luck picking just the right fixture!

Hi Suzanne,

I narrowed it down so it would not be so overwhelming. Still had a hard time selecting but here are some options:

* Progress Lighting Melbourne Etched Glass Pendant in Expresso - P3606-84
* Kichler - 3431DBK - Pomeroy Three Light Pendant in Distressed Black
* Progress Lighting - P3814-77 - Cantata Pendant in Forged Bronze

It is so hard to choose. I have been looking for lighting for my home too. Not easy!

I posted about your giveaway on my sidebar with a link back to this post.

I love the homes of coastal Maine. Kennebunkport is one of the places I visit when I go up there to see my parents who live in Camden. It is such a beautiful state but I still prefer living here in Florida.

I would be glad to help, as soon as I wipe the drool off of my keyboard! That bathroom is off the charts girl! I love it. Now I went to CSN and having over 11,000 pendant lights to choose from, I narrowed it down to.....zero. See? I'm a big help aren't I. LOL! I think something simple is in order here. Not too fussy. GOod luck!

I asked my hubby the electrician for advice on this one. He works in old coastal homes all the time here in Maine. He said they usually have the old schoolhouse style pendants in them. The CSN site had a bunch of them, but the one I'm in love with is called Old Dominion and is from a site called schoolhouseelectric.com
Good luck,

My dear, dear friend! For some reason, my iPad doesn't like to leave messages on your blog, but I'll continue to try! My favor light is the New England Piccolo Pendant in Brushed Nickel - NA1510BN. Just the right touch of New England flair, but not too over powering or fussy. Love it! Love you! Mary B. from the Ice Box!

Grammy said...

What a choice. Definitely a good
place to go to look for nice and affordable lighting. I am wondering
if it would be good to go with the
shiny chrome finish as your fixtures are that. I suppose the brushed would be OK too. Also, are you aware that incandescent lighting will be illegal soon? That's what I've heard. Not sure what the replacements would look like if exposed in an open style pendant. Maybe you could consider a real school house look, all closed in. I saw one and will go back and get the name. Check out that crazy new Big Brother law.

Grammy said...

Checked out the law and it does seem that the old incandescents will be phased out. I love the Quoizel
NA1510BN and the various Landmark
schoolhouse fixtures 69020-1,
69021-1, or the smaller 69009-1. I would definitely recommend seeing these in person before choosing to make sure of the sizing. Can't wait to see what you decide on.

How fun! I just saw the perfect pendant for you in the latest Wisteria catalog. It's a blue metal shade suspended on a rope. It's reminiscent of antique nautical lamps. It's on page 13 and costs $89.
I adore it and think you will too :)
If you don't have the catalog check it out online. It would look amazing in your space.

Hold on, let me get my design professional, A+ in lighting class hat on.

First, a consideration. Overhead lighting in a bathroom is not optimal. Perhaps consider sconces on either side of the mirror.

If you are determind for an overhead fixture I liked the SeaGull, Hudson and Quoizel Family of lights. Keeping in mind your faucet is silver I imagine silver.

I imagine that NO ONE else spent near the time that I did on CSN for this project. But you're my peep. :)

Hi there! I think instead of a pendant, a CHANDELIER is in order!

Some ideas: Landmark Lighting Medford 3 Light Chandelier. SKU# AKL1625

Kichler Sabrina 3 Light mini chand. SKU# Kl7613

Minka Lavery. SKU# mkl1513

There were thousands, so that's where I stopped!

Now I want a new fixture : )

Suzanne,
Posing this question to a former lighting specialist has me dreaming up all the possibilities.

I'd go with the Kichler Seaside in the bronze/coppery finish. (It's a distressed finish as I recall.) I've done that it several homes in the past. Reasonably priced and I believe can be lamped with a 100 watt (You need to check wattage on whatever you choose so you get enough light in there!)

Also, Kichler provides several downrods with these fixtures but you CAN order a 6" piece additionally if you want to alter the length/shorter longer.

Put a dimmer in too, if you don't have one already. Saves $$$ and you can change up the light level that way.

The other idea which I don't have time to check on right now is an inverted pendant or semi flush fixture out of SEEDGlass.....you know the glass with little bubbles in it? Beachy/interesting texture and provides a lot of light.

Inverted lights and semi flush pendants, as apposed to downlights provide a softer lighting.

Progressive/Seagull and I believe Hudson Valley have all had seedglass fixtures if you want to check it out.

Well, whatever you choose, I'm sure it'll be lovely! Love the beadboard and your mirror!

Happy Hunting!

Hi. I know nothing about Kennebunkport decor. So my suggestions will most likely blow your desired style.

Why are you tied to a pendant? A fixture with more than one light would give a warmer glow to the room. Since the room is so simple I think the fixture can be a little fancy without overtaking the room.

Grammy's observation was correct. The new light law will DIM all of our homes !

The bronze trim on the fixtures will pick up the bronze of your mirror. Silver trim on the fixture will pick up on the sink faucets. I'd go with the bronze.
I like: 1. Minka lavery. 1737-1-167 2. Quoizel. my2816ML.

Sorry. None scream Kennebunkport. .
