I recently received
an important message.
{No, not this
way!}
THIS way:
A dear friend
gave me this necklace
for my birthday
and I'm actively
pursuing
it's credo.
Now that the school year
has come to a close
The hustle and bustle
winding down to
a whimper....
No more
Hurry up!
Get up!
Bus is here
in half an hour!
Do you want
to take cold lunch?
Have you brushed
your teeth?!
Remember your
band instrument!
{BARK BARK BARK}
Instead it’s
PJ's ‘til ten.
Let’s ride our bikes!
Blowing bubbles
on the deck....
Should we pick
strawberries today?
Make jam?
It’s raining outside….
how about the museum?
Books in the hammock
Yoga in the park
Easel and paints
in the tree fort
{WAG WAG WAG}
Whatever your barks
are…..QUIET them.
Whatever your wags
are…..Keep ‘em coming!
Eat outside often.
Use paper plates –it’s
okay ~ really!
Set your alarm for
the sunrise…..
Nap later in
the shade.
Dust off
your
your
bicycle
that croquet set
the badminton racquets
summer pursuits,
all!
Crank the tunes
on your deck
or your patio
even your car
and dance…..
with your dog
your child
your mate
Go ahead
no one’s looking
and even if
they are
who cares—
it’s summer!
Go into town
have a cone
write a postcard
from your own
backyard
and send it to
someone you
love
Make them wag
a little, too!
Go to the library,
really browse
no rushing now
Feel like travel?
Tour the countries section:
Italy, Greece,
whatever you fancy.
Or maybe it will be
the mystery section
Who done it???
Sink deep in a chair
with the latest magazines
Go ahead—
it’s summer and
we’re really wagging,
now!
Run through the
sprinkler ~
Lay on a blanket,
Lay on a blanket,
watch the clouds.
Play scrabble by the
pool, the lake.
Heck play it on the
side of the bathtub ~
just PLAY!
Bark less,
wag more….
Try it on.
It’s habit-forming.
Everyone around
you will thank you
for it ~
most especially,
you!

A good reminder! Summer is really so short and then we miss it the other 8 months so all the more reason to "wag" it now. Summer is here and I am delighted. Much love XO
ahahaha loved this, even if summer has come but my holidays are not I feel like wagging :-)
That necklace is so pretty I'd really wish one too!

I can physically feel my body relax as I read through all your suggestions. Loved that bark less necklace...too cute. Today's our last day of school. I am sooooo grateful. Come sweet summer. Bring it!
What a great post and a reminder to slow down and relax. Love your new necklace.
Hi Suzanne,
I LOVE that saying! What a beautiful, fun post! I think I really needed to read that so I can get ready for the kiddos being home. We've got one more week...then it's summer officially. We need to enjoy every minute. Can't believe my oldest will be in high school & my youngest in middle school. :( I don't want them to grow up
! Thanks for stopping by today & for your encouraging words.
xo,
Shellagh
p.s. love that necklace too!
Makes me want to "wag" just reading this wonderful post! Good reminder to enjoy the time we have with our kiddos.
xo,
Debra
Suzanne,
LOVED LOVED your post again. I look forward to reading your thoughts and ponderings more and more. I saw your "necklace quote" on a bumper sticker the other day and on the car right next to it the quote "Life is Good". Yes...
Here in America, life is still good, because we can do those things you just wrote about that made us all sigh and smile. What a blessing.
Thanks so much for the photos, the inspiring words, the adorable dogs, the YUMMY looking ice cream. I believe Steak and Shake and Chic-fil-a both have their seasonal PEACH shakes out now. That's what I'm talkin' about! yes! I want to bark less and wag more... thanks for the reminder. Another bloggy sis said this the other day...SMILE like you mean it. So today I will:
Bark less - Wag more - and Smile like I mean it!
Hugs sent your way. Love your posts. Grateful to be able to visit here with you!!
Yeah!!!!!!!!!
You make me feel so good :)
It all sounds wonderful. I'm so ready for less barking and more wagging :)

I'll jump on that bandwagon!
Fabulous reminders, Suzanne! Love it all--I just barked--(softly, though) to try and hustle my youngest just a bit--her last day of eighth grade...time for a lot of wagging! I'll remember this--thanks, my friend!
Hope your day is wag-ful!
Julie
I'm wagging...it's summer!
Suzanne, what a BEAUTIFUL post!!! And love that necklace and its message. You are delightful!!!

I shall adopt this credo for summer...Wag More. Thanks bunches.
xo,
olive
Oh yes! Wag more! Adorable necklace, I love it! Such a sweet, sweet post, as always, Suzanne!
I have so been barking lately - running around like a lunatic. So, I am going to wag more and start picking things off my calendar. Time to pare it all back. I should be outside right now!
OHHHHH! This is awesome....I have just until tomorrow and I am going to TRY to sleep in a little, maybe until 5:00 since it is usually 3:30am that I get up!!! Suzanne, honestly, you are a gifted writer and you are inspiring me. I am so sorry to have postponed our meeting, but both of us will need to get much done this week; both of us however will be wagging more instead of barking!!! MERCI! Anita
I must be conflicted tail wagging and barking going on at the same time...Happy barks though. Okay not all of them but I will work on it.
That Gracie definitely has the right idea!
How wonderful would life be if we just set out to emulate our pets, hmmm? :-)
Just one question, though....when was your birthday, missy????
Hugs,
Anne
Suzanne, what a lovely post (and I love the music too!). I am all for wagging and less barking!
We are staying close to home this summer and I am so looking forward to easy living and many fun experiences. Small trips to quaint towns, camping in the backyard, camp fires, tons of games, fishing, lemonade stands, loooong and fun dinners with friends and yes - a lot of paper plates!
You are my wise blog friend. I so like how you think and live, dear!
A warm hug, Mon
P.S And thank you for not giving up on me due to my lack of blog comments lately. You will see more of me soon (:
P.S And what a special necklace from a thoughtful friend!
That is such a cute saying Suzanne! And, I must say, we are well seasoned "waggers" over here! And I know if there is the occasional "barking" it's only a reminder that someone is getting hungry! ~Lili
What a wonderful post, Suzanne! I have wonderful memories of lazy summers with my children! They are grown now, but I still try to take time for joy each day, and lots of naps in the porch...
Wonderful! I loved it so much! It reminds me of the summers of the old days. Although, my children are very old fashioned, and love to frolic in the yard, go to the book store, and play with the animals.
what a great inspirational list
especially the nap later part :)
love all the doggy photos too
& i wanted to thank you. you always leave such warm & kind commments
hope you have a fantastic weekend xo
Suzanne! YOU WON THE POTTERY BARN GIFT CARD! Email me...

Summer is my favorite season of all...I plan on wagging from now till September! :)
Suzanne what a magnificent message & the greatest..greatest post. You sound like the most magnificent of mom's & as I type I am listening to Jack Johnson whom I adore. My girls (18, 30) & I were listening to Jack yesterday while driving out to the Texas countryside ( : Jack makes everything more lazier and fun.
You will be making the kind of memories that will stick with your kids like peanut butter. I LOVE your blog & can't thank you enough for your kind comments & sticking with reading DWT while I've been so sketchy. All my best for a plethora of summer wagging!! x deb

~mary~

Suzanne dearest, YOUR words are so beautifully crafted and to hear your admiration for my posts is an honor, a real honor! The last day of school is always so emotional. As we all stand there at the buses and wave goodbye to the students and as they wave goodbye, and the bus drivers throw out candy onto the sidewalk, I feel so part of one of the most important jobs in the world. How did I ever get here.....but I am glad that I did. Time to refuel, stretch the tired muscles and replenish. I am starting my list to pack for the trip, not much, but some gifts for family and friends, and then AWAY WE GOOOOOOOOO! I will miss every single one of you.
Enjoy this wet by cosy weekend, Anita
I love this post Suzanne!
You've said it all..and very beautifully! Live life to the fullest..especially in the summertime!! I totally agree :)
Have a great weekend, my friend..
Deborah xo
This is a great (and important) message.
Thank you!
This holds true with adult children too! They are the tricky ones.

Oh, this is such a beautiful post! And you know, I have a bumper sticker that says "Bark Less, Wag More!" I can't remember where I got it - I think it was a store in Seattle. Anyway, it is a good motto to live by. :) Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and your nice comment. It's so great to meet you and I look forward to following you!

Don't you just love a bark free Summer Suzanne? THis was always the best time of the year for me when the children were all still home. I can see it is for you as well.
I hate missing your great posts. I have been reading here and catching up on the ones that I have missed. Your blog is such a delight.
