Give Away {And Gratitude}

Privet and Holly was born
of a dream
to write and craft words,
to add images that would
help bring those words to life
and to share both with others
who might enjoy
coming along for the ride.

What I didn't dream was
how quickly I would
make friends like you
and how important writing
for both of us
would become....

How my daily walks
through the bloggerhood
would inspire me
in myriad ways.

Not the least being your support.
The comments that you left
on my last post just blew
my family away with their kindness.

As a great big, warm thank you,
I am having my first giveaway to
celebrate my first 50 followers!

I popped over to one of my
favorite little stores....
You know the kind.
The ones with the little rooms and
vignettes that make you want to just
MOVE IN?

I believe it is essential to elevate
the small things that we do each day....
like washing hands...or dishes....into something special.
With that in mind, I had fun picking out some little
treats just for you.

Enjoy this lucious
Ginger Flower Soap
made in the USA
by Fringe.

I've tucked this lovely
triple-milled soap into
a decorative nest
with two robin's eggs.

You'll also receive
gardener purifying hand wash
and gardener candle
by the Thymes, USA
one of my most favorites!
{smells like fresh-mowed grass}

and

Farmhouse Dish soap
in Herb Blossom scent
made by Sweetgrass Farm, USA

To enter, tell me how
you first discovered
on-line blogs.....
and give me an example
of one that you just adore.
Consider it an introduction
between friends.

I will go first.  I had a vague
sense of what a web log was
from the book Julie and Julia,
which I read in 2005.

But, it wasn't until January
{of this year!} that I really
stumbled into blogdom.

I was looking on-line for ideas on
how to organize my pantry.
I found several nice articles
which then led me to a food
blog.....which led me to another
one....and soon it was like
being in a maze and not being
quite sure how I arrived where
I ended up!

I found myself on the web log of
lovely Lili, from Fearless Nesting.
I read and read and read and
took it all in.  It was a new
world of like-minded women
and I was so excited at
the discovery!

Fearless Nesting
Not understanding how to make
comments, I tiptoed over to
visit some of the neighbors
on Lili's side bar....

.....and got even further lost
in the maze.

I eventually found my way out.

{My pantry is still unorganized.}

The giveaway ends on May 12th and
then I will throw your names in
a hat and Tadpole {my youngest}
will make the big draw.

You are all winners, in my book.

xx P&H

PS:  I e-mailed or left a message on blogs
for those of you who left comments about
Sasha....please check your spam file,
just in case.  My parents and the
rest of my family thank you from
 the bottom of our hearts!

You are just soooo sweet! I am so glad that I found your beautiful world! I always feel so calm when I am finished here...it is a lovely place!

I first stumbled into the world of blogging through Rate My Space on the HGTV site! I was inspired by a dining room that I had seen on HGTV and was led to find out more about it...while visiting the site I saw beautiful images and rooms created by a woman named Kristen...she mentioned if we wanted to see more of her beautiful home that she had a blog. I thought blogs were only for politicaal purposes...I was thrilled to find out that there were decorating blogs! One visit to Kristen's was all I needed. I was hooked! She has a beautiful blog and she is a beautiful person...I am thrilled to say that today we are friends!

Her blog is Kristen's Creations...you can find her on my blog roll and her button is on my sidebar...if you haven't already you should definitely visit her...she is a treasure!

Enjoy!

Hello, my brand new friend!

I share so many of the same feelings about blogging and how it has changed my life for the better.

This time last year, I had actually never visited a blog in my life! But I was contemplating opening up my first booth in an antique mall, and began searching for inspiration.

I can't recall which blog lured me in first, but my very first fairy blogmother was and is the inimitable Theresa of Garden Antqs Vintage. She has a style which is both classic and edgy and altogether wonderful.

Congrats on your first 50, I feel certain that number will be growing exponentially in the days ahead!

Hugs,
Anne

Dear P&H...How sweet you. I'm so thankful to hear that we were able to comfort your family at this time in some small way. I know how you feel...this blogging community of friends have walked through the good and the bad with me. In the first month of blogging my oldest son ran away from home. He was only 16...I found such comfort and hope in the love, prayers, and encouraging words given by my bloggie friends. He did return after a summer and it took another year for full restoration. Blogging has been more wonderful than I could have ever imagined. I began blogging long before Julie and Julia...I began in Jan 2007. My best friend jAne of Tickleberry Farm blog introduced me. But I had never really used a computer before so it took me until May 2007 to actually begin posting. I began with a cottage emphasis...focusing on my simple home life. I was homeschooling my four children still and so it was a place 'all my own' that I could escape to...an outlet for my creative heart...and a place that I could pen down lovely thoughts to 'give' to others. Back then I would say one of my favorite blogs to visit daily was Brin of My Messy Thrilling Life. She lived at Freeman House then and shared her romantic organic old cottage lifestyle in such a dreamy way with us. Then I think after about a year into blogging I stumbled upon A Beach Cottage where Sarah swooned me with her simple seaside living. Now that she has gotten BIG and her blog has become somewhat of a business I don't find it as swoony. I still love sarah and her beach cottage...just not as much as when she first started. I'm not here to make a buck, or to become famous, I try to stay true to why I began blogging...to give some lil bit of beauty to our everyday life...mine as well as yours. I want my blog to be a retreat and I'm drawn to other blogs that are the same. Yours is that for me. Thank you. ox~ Fairmaiden

Hi, Suzanne, I loved reading your thoughts about how this has changed your life. It is quite amazing when like minds come together, regargless of how they meet. I discovered blogs over a year ago when I did a google search for Trisha Foley, the favorite designer of myself and so many others, and ended up at Marley and Lockyer. I loved the pictures Ness posted there and just started hopping around to other blogs on her sidebar. I find that, like Kerrie, once blogs become big, they tend to lose some of the charm. Yours is one I found through Kerrie's blog, Sea Cottage, and I have been so grateful. I appreciate your style of writing and the magic you bring to all who enter. Now I have certain ones I feel the need to check in on every day, and of course this is one of them! I had not imagined the sense of community and friendship here. It has been a blessing. Take care.

Your writing is so well done the way you can put into words what I at times find a struggle.

Your giveaway is delightful. I am a confessed soap addict. I must be really clean or really dirty to keep buying it. I do look at it as a daily little luxury.

As for Blogging mazes; that is what happened to me and sometimes it sill does. Some days I'm overwhelmed by the photos, writings, homes and creativity of others. I actually discovered blogging while doing a search at work one day. I went home a did more and then one day thought well why not give it a while.

Narrowing it down to just one blog is difficult. To pick just one it would be LaDolfina.

What a fabulous giveaway P&H, love it all and would love to have all of it for myself. :)

I stumbled into the blog world around January 2009 aftering hearing about Joni's Cote de Texas blog on our local morning news show. Same as you, once I found her blog, I discovered all of the other amazing blogs from her blog roll. It is so addictive and wonderful I just love it and wonder if I'll ever tire of it?!

Your blog is so lovely and your writing style is so refreshing.

I would have never imagined meeting so many fabulous women if my daughter hadn't encouraged me to begin my own blog. At first I didn't think anyone would be interested in reading anything I had to say, and then, like magic, my world expanded and I've never looked back. I'm so glad to have found your sweet blog.

What a lovely giveaway!
I first learned of blogs through the scrapbooking magazine Creaing Keepsakes. One of their writers, Ali Edwards, mentioned her blog in an article. Her blog led me to other scrapbooking blogs (so I started my own), which led me to crafting blogs (so I opened an Etsy shop), which led me to blogs that are just about living (and I like to live beautifully). I'm still finding new one (yours) and still loving them all (which makes it very difficult to keep up with my blog reader)!

I love how you say things. The comment you left me today stood out beyond the rest. It touched me in a place I normally don't let myself go very often. We are kindred spirits, you and I. We both understand that focusing on the mundane is essential and healthy. And we both know that third eye intimately. Your blog is going places, I can already tell. So make sure your shirt is tucked in and your shoes are tied and all that stuff. Because you are in for a ride!

Hello Suzanne,

What a fabulous and generous giveaway. I love your blog and your writing style. Although I became a follower only this morning, I have visited your blog many times.

I am coming up on my first year blogiversary in a couple of months. Like you, I was searching for something and somehow stumbled upon a blog and that one led to another one and so on and so forth. One day after succumbing to the prodding of friends, I bit the bullet and created my own blog. Blogging has opened up a whole new world for me. There is so much inspiration in blog land. Your blog will be one of those that develop a large following so you better be ready!

Oh Suzanne, I had no idea!!! What a fun thing to read about how you eventually found your way over to my place! I love your writing and your images, and oh your giveaway is incredible! I'm so glad you're on this journey with us. My first encounter with reading a blog was when I googled the name of my town and I found a post from someone who had written a post about it. And then I discovered they lived in a nearby town from us! There are so many blogs that I adore and for the most part, they are now all on my sidebar! This was a fun way to reflect on how we all got started. Thanks Suzanne for the sweet way you included me in your post today! ~Lili

Hi P&H,
I remember when I first found the world of blogs. My daughter owned a shop in Boise,ID and had started a blog to connect with other shop owners and from there I was hooked. This was about three years ago. So then my daughter urged me to start one of my own, but I enjoyed reading others so much that I had no interest to start one of my own. Then a little over a year ago, Laughing With Angels was born and I have enjoyed it so much. I had several blogs that were must reads, but I have to say that French Garden House and The Feathered Nest and Sadie Olive were my faves, Oh and Heather Bullard.
It has been a treat getting to know a little more about you as well.

Hi Suzanne,

I just became a follower but I've been reading your blog and others for a few months now. I've known about blogs for probably at least 10 years, but I only got into reading them a few months ago when my sister started one. (She's taking a break from it, but I'm still reading blogs!) It's such a neat way to connect with people all over the country (and world) from so many backgrounds. One of my favorites is written by an 80-year-old woman. I think it's so neat that she is tech savvy and willing to share something of her life in this way. Her blog URL is http://livinatmemescorner.blogspot.com/.
Thank you for this amazing and generous giveaway. Beetle

Awww, so sweet! I actually started blogging because I kept telling other people to do it, some of my younger friends that are in college were asking me about ways to "get ahead" and I suggested blogging in the subject of their choice. Then I was like, wait, why am I not doing this?? Ha! Amy at Varnish Design was the first blogger to reach out to me as a newbie blogger, so her blog will forever hold a special place in my heart! Of course I am a follower, this is a fabulous giveaway!

I came as you have been featured by my dear friend Brenda at Cozy Little House. Such a lovely blog you have and I know I am going to enjoy coming back.

Your giveaway is truly generous and I like the unique way you have made the rules!! Amazingly, we found our way around in a similar fashion. I was looking for a painting to put above my fireplace and went to an online shop I found in the back of Romantic Homes, called French Garden House. Not only did I find my painting, but I became friends with the owner who was also a blogger. Needless to say, I visited some of the blogs on her sidebar and yes, got lost in the maze for awhile, and then started my own blog. I have never looked back since. The friends I have made are priceless. I follow more blogs than follow me, I just love people from all walks of life with so many interests; crafts, cooking, writing, photography. We could hold an awesome convention!! ;-D

It was nice meeting you Holly {?} and I will visit again soon!

I just found you on White Wednesday so this is my first visit to your blog:)

I started my blog for the simple reason of my desire to participate in Cindy's Show and Tell Friday at My Romantic Home. At first it was frustrating (I'm not that computer savvy) but I've grown to love it! Of course, I've developed a huge Etsy shop addiction now:) I'm blown away by how talented these blogworld women are, it's amazing!!!

Lovely giveaway and I look forward to following you:)

Because of women like you!

I can't remember what the first blog I read was but I remember thinking how lovely it was that all these strangers were interested in another persons life without knowing the first thing about them. I loved how friendly strangers could share their feelings and their problems and always seem to be there for their cyber buddies. I love that in writing my own blog, I can be the true me, I don't have to be grown up and sensible like I do at work. Too much time in life is spent being serious and acting like an adult - my blog is my playground, my never-never land.

I have not received word on how our sweet lily is doing today. I'm patiently waiting.

The beaches we go to are Northern Ca. (very different than Southern)...they are wide, open, empty stretches of sand, sea, dunes, and cliffs...it is rarely hot...sometimes warm but for the most part cold. It is often socked in with fog...my favorite...fog, calm, crystal clear sea green water. It is what you would love.

Her blog led me to PIONEER WOMAN which led me to.....you get the picture! One of my favorites is BETWEEN NAPS ON THE PORCH but there are sooooo many that I love. I spend way, way too much time enjoying them but I'm retired so I can do that!!! Thanks for entering me in the giveaway for the beautiful items you've chosen.

I have to honestly say that your blog is the most soothing, beautiful and inspiring blog I know of. Your photography is stunning and your topics can really make me think or stir my imagination! ... I'm quite new to blogging. The first blog I ever read was my sister and brother's blog of their travels to China, Vietnam, Nepal and India this past fall. With humor, they shared their experiences of visiting and at times living with the locals. I got a bird's eye view into another world. As I have free time, I'm starting to explore other blogs. There are so many wonderful ones out there, I'm sure, so I'll have to take a peek at ones listed by your readers :)

Hi Suzanne I just found your blog through my friend Anne at Fiona and Twig. Your blog is lovely and I'm a follower.

My first blog I found was Romantic Home and from there I found so many more. I was always addicted to decor magazines and so many had gone under that blogging filled that void. I was so inspired by Cottage of the Month and I just knew I had to do my own blog. I love decorating and creating and I cannot believe how many people out there have the same tastes and interests as me. It is mind blowing. Blogging has also helped me make friends since I have recently moved across the country away from friends and family...blogging so helps with homesickness!
Nice meeting you ...come over for a visit!

Hi Suzanne~ I just discovered your beautiful blog via Fiona and Twig and really have enjoyed my visit! I began blogging soon after, only 6 months ago myself, and my daughter gave me the book Blogging For Bliss for Christmas, which was very inspirational. A blog I adore? There are so many I couldn't pick one...they all touch me in so many different ways! Congratulations on your milestone~ I am now a follower, too, and have posted this on my sidebar!

Hi Suzanne - what a wonderful generous giveaway!
I first started exploring the blog world only this year - my career was always so busy that I never really took the time to discover what was out there. When i finally threw in the towel with my day job in January, I checked out a blog of a former co-worker and stylist who was doing a spot on TV and once there, I also got lost in a maze of other blogs through sidebar links. I soon realized that I had been missing such a vast, connected world and decided to start blogging myself in February. Who would have known that I would love it so much - the lovely people I've "met" are such a nice break to my day and I so look forward to posting each day and reading all the comments that people take time to leave on my blog.
I've come across many lovely blogs - it's hard to pinpoint one that is my favourite, but Lovely Clusters is a great place when I need my dose of girly prettiness with all of Rachel's dreamy images. But I have to say that your blog has really touched me - your posts are so heartfelt and I look forward to visiting each day to see what beautiful words and pictures you have to share. And that you take the time to visit my blog, I truly appreciate it. Thanks for becoming one of my most treasured blog friends. xx Lisa

I must confess that I can't recall how I came into blogging but I do remember connecting with Kellie of Cashon & Co. from the start. It's so true how you cherish your first real connection with a fellow blogger. Oh wow, this is a beautiful blog! I'm gad I discovered it!

I stumbled across blogs many years ago, through my writing career. I decided to keep one to share my writing life and made a bunch of friends along the way. I didn't discover crafting blogs (although I had googled and had stumbled across those offering techniques) until I signed up for Silver Bella and it is just an amazing, giving world!

I think I was looking for instructions on how to do something and found a blog. Was so amazed by it that I saved it to my favorites list and visited often. Then I found another and another! Hours spent just going from one blog to another! You should see my favorites list now! My blog is not what I want it to be yet. Sometimes I feel so inadequate but I plug away. My friends don't even know I have one. Your blog is lovely and speaks to me on so many levels. I'm glad I found you through Fiona and Twig. It looks like you will soon be having a giveaway for 100 followers! Congrats!

I just discovered your blog this morning, through one called Cozy Little House. I, too, stumbled across my first blog by searching online, for slipcovers, of all things! and discovered several "cottage" blogs that gave tips on decorating, baking, etc. From there, I just strolled and scrolled my way deeper and deeper into the kingdom (or queendom!) of blogs, discovering along the way many kindred souls....some of us have to work outside the home and some do their work at home, but we all seem to enjoy nature, family, all things quaint, vintage, shabby and delightful....my own sister recently began a blog, and perhaps I will, too! Glad to meet you, and hope to visit you again soon!

Found you thru Fiona and Twin. How I got into blogging......hmmmm......
first blog I discovered was The Feathered Nest. Followed her for about a year or so, and realized how beautiful the blogging world was and decided I wanted to join in.

Love your words, beautifully said!!

Hello!

Hmm... I first discovered blogs in 2006. I was enchanted by a spread in BHG of Holly Mathis' home, so I googled her and found her blog "ShabbyMama" which has now become Holly Mathis Interiors. I then started my own blog chronicling the building of our home by my husband.

I think my favorite blog at the moment is The Lettered Cottage because I like Layla's style and she lives near where we used to live in the Florida Panhandle. It kind of takes me back to that time in my life to read her blog.

Your blog is very sweet.

That adorable Anne of Fiona and Twig put the word out on your blog, and here I am, not to be disappointed! You are gifted in using words to convey your heart ~ I wept when I read about Sasha, so loved and a love-giver. We now have Lucy, who is our dog #4, and I know how your heart hurts when one passes on. YOur photos are wonderful, too.

I began blogging last August at the suggestion of one of my daughters when I was going to have brain surgery. She thought I might want to process it all and share with family and friends. But as usual with blogging, I went on to exploring other blogs and I have met some wonderful new friends. I love to read Anne's posts, as she is so open and usually makes me giggle. There are many others, too many to write about, and now I am pleased to add yours, so of course, I am following you!

I learned about blogs through some training at work. I work for a library. I thought I would never take the time to read blogs but one day stumbled across "My Desert Cottage" and Karen was hosting "Where Bloggers Create" and I would come back every day and look at the creative spaces of the bloggers had posted pictures of. I started blogging this year, I have made about 20 posts and I am hooked. I love the things you have in your giveaway. I look forward to having a giveaway when I celebrate an accomplishment in blogging. Your blog is lovely.

Gosh, I'm not even sure how I stumbled upon my FIRST blog. I do know that somehow, I ended up at timeworn interiors and clicked here and there and OMG! The gorgeous pictures, the lovely decorating, the wonderful words, the senses of humor - from one to another, to another. I, too, got lost in blogland. But I always start out at timeworn interiors! Someday I want a blog of my own, just need the time to put into it. Another fav is freshvintage. Colleen's a hoot! thanks for offering the giveaway and I hope to visit soon, now that I found you!

Hello! You have a lovely blog! I found the first blog I ever saw by looking for something else. That led me to another, then another, and I was happily lost in the maze just like you. It's been three years now, and the early morning spent browsing through my favorites is a precious time.

A friend told me about her blog and then I clicked on her blog list and like you, I became lost. I am so glad I found your blog. You write the way I want to write. Pieces of you. I am still too shy:)

What a lovely giveaway and congrats on your first 50! I love reading your posts!!! Well
I think we started around the same time.My story sounds alot like yours except it was from reading a featured seller on Etsy. I loved her
story and her style and she had a link to her blog. I checked out her blog and I was in pure joy! I loved it. I noticed the links of her favorites and it was like you said, one led to another to another and it was all the things I love! Never in a million years did I think I would do something like having a blog, I'm not to confident and not the greatest at writing. I sooo love it and it's the sweet comments and the positive bloggers that I just adore! I'm hooked on blogging! As for an example on a blog I adore, well yours of course! I love and look forward to reading your lovely writings :]

I am fairly new to blogging ... I first starting looking at blogs when I saw Stephanie Nielson's story (nienie dialogues) on the TODAY Show.

Then I started my own to help heal from a very difficult time (only happy little things on my blog!) And it really did help!

I love your description of the maze ... it is so true. Sometimes I "lose" a blog because I can't remember how I got there to get back once I've left ... sigh.

I do love all things "soap" though! I blogged about that just a few posts ago, so I love this give away - thanks for having it!

You are darling!

I also just found your blog by chance. I don't remember for sure when I discovered blogging, but I think it was around the time my sister pointed my to her friend's blog. He had two favorite blogs listed and one was Dooce.com. Dooce is married and the mother of a baby and a daughter, who is now in school. Dooce is irreverent and extremely funny. She is becoming quite famous, actually. Dooce will always be my favorite blogger because she really introduced me to the world of blogs and she makes me laugh every time I read her latest blog.

Now, I spend more of my time on the blogs of people who are artists or who decorate their homes the way I wish I could. (I'm a romantic and shabby chic lover.)

I fear that now I have an addiction to blogs and spend waaay too much time finding the next beautiful blog and returning to old favorites.

Your give away is absolutely lovely, and if I were to win, I would be delighted.

Thank you for sharing with all of us.

I feel like I might have already commented on this post, but maybe not. Anywho, I love reading your blog and I loved what you had to say about being a mother. Your daughter is so darling and I know your own mother must be so proud to be your mother. Hope you include me in your giveaway. Have a fabulous Mother's Day!

Congratulations on finding blogland LOL. I stumbled across it after reading something in a magazine and decided to start one of my own. It lay dormant for almost a year before I started really blogging. Some of my FAVORITE blogs are Jenny Matlock, Gypsy Brocante, 52 Flea, and Fiona and Twig.

Smiles~
Marilyn
PS. Sorry to read about Sasha. Growing up, our dobies were the best pets a person could have.

A few of my friends blogged and I just thought, maybe one day I'll get into it. Them I gave a gift to my friend for no other reason than what I found was made to be with her. She said she would blog about it and so I followed her. One day at work (slow day in the office) I desided to make my own. lifeordained.blogspot.com I too followed the links and through so-and-so to so-and-so and on, I finally found flowerpatch farmgirl... i just can't get enough of this gals blog... I quite enjoy bloglife, and all it has to offer, esp the gorgeous giveaways I find!

Well my introduction to blogs was very accidental. Two summers ago, we had endless rainstorms that made for long dark days. I spent hours on Rate My Space one day and somebody was referring to blogs on their space. I just had to click on that link and it lead me to blogland! I have been overwhelmed by the fun and common interests. I think I first found BJ at Sweet Nothings. She's still one of my very favorites!

I stumbled across blogger before but I wasn't really interested in it at the time. Around February I wanted to express myself online and I considered blogging but I still thought having my own site would be much better, thankfully my boyfriend (strongly) suggested blogger in stead :) After that I got to know the wonderful sweet blogging community and now I wouldn't even consider leaving it, if I went for my own site back then I'm sure I'd have ended up disappointed and feeling a bit alone, but here there's so much support and friendliness :) I especially enjoy a blog called cooking for seven, great stories and awesome recipes! I love to try out new things, so I always read it with a lot of interest :)

Hello, and so nice to meet you, I'm sorry I didn't find you sooner, I would have put your giveaway on my sidebar. I started reading blogs several years ago, but started mine 11 months ago after a serious health problem sidelined me from doing what I love; having an antique space. I was alone and isolated and feeling like my life was over, but I jumped in and started a blog and it changed my life! Now, I'm feeling better and back to doing what I really enjoy. Congrats on your milestones, and I'm so glad to find you. I just joined as a follower,
xo,
Debra

Hi-

I was drawn to your blog this evening by its wonderful name. I'll have to read more to find out its origin.
I am so glad I found it.
Congratulations on your 50 + followers, and I am now one as well.

For me- it is about the writing. Periodically I also enjoy doing some of the show and tell, but it always circles back to the writing.

When all of my friends started doing Facebook, I asked my daughters what they thought.
Unanimously, they said no Mom. That's not you. A blog gives me a chance to write.

So here I am.
White Spray Paint is my place to tell a story, share a feeling or two or three, and express (I hope)my gratitude.

Thank you for this wonderful giveaway and a chance to share.

I soo hope I'm not too late........ As I'm in New Zealand and we're a day ahead of you I thought I could squeeze in!!

My first voyage into Blogland was via Sandra Evertson's blog.
I read an article she wrote Called "Album d'enchantillon, in a Somerset Life magazine Summer 2008.
It was about a French fabric sample book.
As I read on every picture was more scrumptious than the one before!

I was hooked on magic and couldn't wait to learn more about this creative person.

Soooo I headed over to her blog:
http://sandraevertson.blogspot.com/
and I've been hooked ever since!

What a magnificent creation Suzanne!! I remember the first Christmas a while back when your exquisitely wrapped presents arrived in Baton Rouge for your brother and his new wife---our daughter! My wish since those days has been to make my life just as beautiful a present--and now you've put it all into words with amazing music and photos to boot. Congratulations and count me as one of your biggest fans!!
