What is it about firelight
that brings us close
that makes us want to share secrets
tell stories
laugh and be close?
Each day brings each night,
and each night a firelight,
lit but for even if a moment fills
each fold of our heart and heart of our fold
with all the usual unspokens,
yet more than any other, hope.
~ John Shaw, "Firelight"
We had a night like that on Saturday,
by the lake
with ten friends.
Cloudless starry night,
soft breezes
dogs running and kids from next door
chasing each other in circles.
.
Huddled on adirondacks
under blankets
or standing close to the flames
We'd all left our own kids
at home,
so for several hours
we were our own childlike
selves again.
Laughing, sharing confidences
and just being us in
the warm glow of the firelight.
Hope you enjoyed your own weekend
firelight!

What a fabulous way to spend an evening!
It was too warm to light the outdoor firepit, but we sat by candle light & the glow of a gazebo chandelier long into the night after a barbie Q with friends. And as we parted we made plans to camping on the coast...soon we will sit around the fire together. Lovely post...and sounds like a wonderful time.
Yes, I can see why Di warmed to this blog. It has some of the same elements that "The Blue Ridge Gal's" blog has and why I love hers so. It wrapped me in a warm glow. So nice. A simply beautiful post! It was a joy visiting with you.

Absolutely gorgeous! Now I want a fireplace ;)
Hi Caron ~ I'm so pleased that you like it! The first song is Ordinary Miracles by Sarah McLachlan. You can see all five songs by scrolling down to the bottom. Thanks for visiting! xx P&H
Love the sepia image of the children running. That's a gorgeous lake with the distant mountains too. Sounds like a great Saturday night! ~Lili
You really capture the essential things in life. I loved your post about why we stop running and now this post which is so true. There is nothing like being around a fire outside at night. It's truly magical and brings you back to your essence. When we are in Tahoe with friends around the fire I can't pull my husband away... it's like he's a kid again and drawn into the magic of the moment.
You are awesome... these posts are precious!!

Just found your blog - loving it!
this post reminds me of being at our place on the river - we've got the same tree stump seats around our firepit! It's such a relaxing special place and the perfect place to share with friends and family.
